High School Student Exchange to Ireland:

A Week of Culture and Discovery

08.03 -13.03.2026

On Sunday morning, we began our journey. We were accepted to take part in a high school exchange, which was our first trip of this kind abroad. On the 8th of March, we took a connecting flight to Dublin. At the airport, we met our host families, who brought us to their homes in Skerries.

In the afternoon, we went on a tour around the town. It was really cold and windy, and we were not prepared for such weather. After a few hours of walking, we were exhausted and needed some rest. In the evening, we went to Billy’s house to play some games like Poker. That was our first day.

On the second day, we visited Skerries Community College. Afterward, we went to the Skerries Mills museum, which is 200 years old. It was a great experience; our guide told us all about the history of old Skerries, and we really enjoyed it. Next, we walked to Ardgillan Castle, a mansion full of mysteries and secret passages.

In the afternoon, we visited a shopping centre in Swords, where we ate fast food and sushi with our exchange mates. Later, Jonathan invited us to his house. We played instruments like the guitar and piano, enjoying a wonderful evening together.

The following day, we went on a trip to the cliffs in Howth. The view was breathtaking. After a few hours of hiking, we had some free time and enjoyed traditional fish and chips. In the evening, Noah (Bartek’s host) organized a birthday party for Bartek and Gabriel. Everyone from the exchange was invited, and we spent the whole night celebrating.

The next day, we visited Dublin. We took a train to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells. It was very interesting, and the library was gorgeous. That evening, we took a night walk with our Irish friends.

Thursday was our last full day in Ireland. We traveled to Glendalough to see the beautiful lakes. Unfortunately, the weather was horrible—it was very windy and rained heavily. Everyone got soaking wet. In the evening, Adam (Marcin’s host) organized a farewell party. We played the guitar and sang songs; everyone seemed to have a great time.

On Friday morning, we packed our luggage and went on our final trip to Malahide Castle, which was lovely. However, by then, everyone was thinking about the flight and the journey back to Poland. Our host families gave us a lift to the airport, where we said our goodbyes.

Summarizing, we truly enjoyed our exchange to Ireland. We met many wonderful people and experienced a new culture. We saw many interesting things—including the „ordinary” Irish weather. We returned to Poland full of joy and can’t wait for our Irish friends to visit us.
